Internet 101: The Basics of Online Safety

For years now, I have been an advocate for educating the masses on how to use the internet safely, and have verbally and vehemently preached the rationale and necessity for safe internet practices. Up until now, it’s all been through minimal instructional excerpts. With the increased availability of computers in households, and inherent risks abounding, the time has come to take a more pro-active role - from a parental and communal responsibility - to ensure the safety of our kids.


Internet 102: Parents Guide to Internet Slang

We were recently provided with a short guide entitled: “Parents Guide to Internet Slang: Understand How Your Kids Communicate Online.”

Leetspeak, or ‘leet’ for short (a vernacular form of ‘elite’), is a specific type of computer slang in which a user replaces regular letters with other keyboard characters to form words phonetically. Leet words can be expressed in hundreds of ways, using different substitutions and combinations.
