Germophobes, unite. Or pass me the Purell please.

Date March 1, 2008

It’s the weekend. The sun is melting the little bit of snow we got overnight. And I’m stuck inside, quarantined.

pbnnyWith pinkeye.

I have no idea how I contracted it but, with all the “sicklys” I’ve been around this week, can’t say I’m surprised. I’m just gonna blame it on those I work with who are not germophobes, as am I. Despite the copious amounts of Purell and Lysol being liberally distributed about my office, something got past that 99.9% protection. (Kind of like the odds of a condom, huh.)

A hundred bucks later for a trip to the doctor and meds, and doctor’s orders to go home, I remain confined for the next 24 hours.

With a call to a local restaurant (who delivers), a 5-gallon bottle of water, and my uber comfortable bed, I’m set for the day. Glad I have the wide world web to entertain me!

Maybe I can discover some great new blogs.toast

Anyone else under the weather this weekend?

P.S. List your blog in a comment here, and I’ll buzz by to see you. ;)

Why did they ever phase out house calls?

Date January 9, 2008

Over the weekend, I ended up with a stomach virus/flu that was passed on by an unnamed family member (Gar). Stayed at home Monday. Tuesday, still wasn’t feeling great, but work demands required me being there. Mid-afternoon, I left and was persuaded to go get checked out by my doctor.

Why did they ever phase out house calls?

Don’t know about you, but I hate sitting in doctor’s offices. My time is just as valuable as their’s and, the longer I wait, the more agitated I become. Especially when, in the course of a typical hour wait, I will see anywhere between 1-4 sales reps come waltzing in and going straight to the back. Not cool! Not cool at all for these people to bump patients who have scheduled appointments and are already past that scheduled time - by up to 45 minutes (or more).

I’ve defended the pharmaceutical industry in the past, but I’m slamming you and your practices now. I know what you reps do in the course of your day and, your quota doesn’t mean shit to me. It’s your job. You can sit amongst those of us who are PAYING to endure have the honor of sitting in doctor’s offices upwards of an hour to get 5 minutes of face time.
Suck it up and wait it out with us.

That is all.

P.S. Love the fact that I spent money to be told to continue the self-medicating I was already doing (since antibiotics could make the stomach virus worse). But I did leave with a scrip just in case it didn’t get in any better in the next couple of days. On the up side, next time I need antibiotics I won’t have to endure the wait. Can just fill the scrip instead. Paging Dr. Marcus Welby - teach these docs about house calls, please! :java:

Rights. Respect. Responsibility.®

Date January 8, 2008

One of the cool gifts Nick received this year was a calendar from a colleague of mine (thanks JT), whose daughter had been involved in a very special project: Rights. Respect. Responsibility.® Condom Campaign. sponsored by Advocates for Youth.org.

No, those aren’t smiley faces you’re seeing in the picture below. It’s creative use of condoms to get a message across, and is one of the winners in the calendar contest.
