Who is dKaye? My name’s Donna, but I prefer to go by my nickname - dKaye (first initial, middle name). I was named after the Richie Valens song “Oh Donna.” Nothing like having a roomful of drunks serenading you to that, let me tell ya!
I’m a 40-something southern gal transplanted in Northern New Jersey -the pretty part of the state. And though living in the north, I’m still a southerner at heart! “You can take me out of the south, but you can’t take the south out of me. NashVegas will always be my home.”
Some other things to know about me:
- COMMUNITY MOM.
- photo promateur (check out my take on everyday life through photos over at eScapes)
- music enthusiast.
- computer geek.
- ‘friends’ addict (have all 10 seasons and randomly select a season/dvd daily).
- football freak (college - vols; pro - colts. to my surrogate son - peyton - mom’s so proud
). - fancier of fine agaves and ‘tekillya’ (tequila). make the BEST margarita this side of the lake.
- philosophically unconventional.
- snarky.
- took the plunge on my 39th birthday - literally! skydiving is awesome. want to do it again.
Writing is therapeutic
Umpteen years ago when I was mandated to see a therapist (haven’t we all seen one at one time or another?), part of my program was to write. To brainstorm. About anything. To purge the brain. The journals are long gone, along with the scribblings that were my inner ramblings - designed to rid the demons and cleanse the soul.
In 2000, I started writing stories on my website - which wasn’t yet a blog, per se. Around 2004, I converted the stories to a blog format and, ever since, have been providing my readers with an escape from their stress-filled lives through tidbits of laughter. I try not to get wordy but, as you can see - I write like a rainbow - descriptively, in full Technicolor, not just monochrome.
Cold Coffee …and reruns (formerly Ephemeral Acuity, formerly dKaye.com) is my blog - a collection of anecdotal writings targeted at everyday life; sometimes whimsical, sometimes rant. Always entertaining. And, it comes complete with a PDA-friendly version, and now a new decaffeinated version, too (wOOt).
All of the stories here are reruns. They’re new to the reader(s), but are re-tellings of things that have already happened and worth posting to enlighten someone else’s day. Or possibly are “pregrets” - those things I’m going to eventually end up regretting later on. Sometimes the names are changed to protect the guilty. Other times, they’re not - and these escapades are put on parade for all to read about. Give them their fifteen minutes of fame - or shame - as the case may be.
Cast of Characters / Ponderings: Family and Friends
Preamble: I consider myself fortunate. Family and good friends are the most important things in my life. And, although estranged from my oldest son for many years now (through parental alienation), my thoughts are always with him - hoping the life he’s living is filled with happiness and personal successes. Aside from an occasional mention, you’ll never find any find only one story here about him and the (well-hidden) anguish I’ve endured over the years.
What you will find are stories about:
- The trials and tribulations of raising a teenage son, Nick - who - at 17 - is now a young adult himself.
- Escapades with Gary (Gar), my ex who’s not my ex - he’s my best friend/ companion, and Nick’s Dad. We have a unique relationship. We were lousy spouses, but are really great friends. Although we don’t live together, through our friendship - and Nick - we’re closer now than when we did live together. It also sets a good example for Nick - just because your parents live in separate houses doesn’t mean they can’t still be friends and get along famously.
- Life’s everyday journeys as experienced through - and with - family and good friends.
- Other, unrelated things, too - interspersed along the way, such as good music, funny movies, geeky gadgetry, and the like.
Words to live by
“Life’s journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting - ‘Holy **batman** … what a ride!’” (unknown)
