I’ve watched all of 2 episodes this year of American Idol. Last night was the 2nd. And I was absolutely impressed. By David Cook. And he won. As I was watching it, I honestly hoped he’d take the crown. I was thrilled when he did. He’s got an incredible voice and a more incredible personality.
I believe David Cook has the potential to be the first male winner of the show to truly excel to the superstardom ranks of Kelly and Carrie. And I wish him all the successes and happiness as he crosses the next stone on the path to that ultimate superstardom. Well deserved! Well deserved.

“After 4 months of holding my breath, I can finally exhale.” (David Cook)
My advice to David, and the others - stay true to your roots, enjoy the shit out of the journey - and don’t ever lose sight of the ground beneath you. Without it, the fall is steep. Oh, and get a camera to record the journey to look back on it when the whirlwind has settled. Otherwise, you may forget the little things that made it special.
Congratulations - looking forward to following your career path.
As far as the finale - there were some awesome, outrageous pair-ups and performances. By far, the best they’ve done yet. Here’s my take on them:
Carly, Carly! Carly! Holy shit - I was blown away by her! I hadn’t really heard her before, and was totally blown away by her vocals and stage presence. She loves the music, and watching her makes you want to get up and enjoy it with her. Lots of soul in that girl. I see great things ahead for her - if she makes the right choices.
Sayeisha - honey, you had the opportunity to have some fun with Seal and you missed it girl. What’s wrong with you? Seal, come serenade me, baby. You can even bring Heidi.
Donna Summer - she’s still the queen!
Worst duet of the night - One Republic and the other David. I love the song, and I didn’t think David brought anything to it. I’d rather have just heard One Republic. Sorry dude, but I see you more on Broadway than mainstream.
Favorite segment: Gladys Knight and the Pips. The boys brought it. Downey was channeling Sammy Davis, Jr. That aside, nobody’s got chops like early Gladys. Stellar.

Worst star segment: Carrie Underwood. If you can’t remember your last name, might I suggest carrying a personal card with that information on it. Can you say coyote ugly?
Best star segment: George Michael. Great song. Great performance.
Best performance: David Cook’s inaugural performance once crowned. Superb!
Congratulations to all, and good luck in the future.
Anyone else watch it? What’d you think?
