We woke this morning to the first snowfall of the season. It wasn’t much, only about three inches. Just enough to usher in the holiday season.

I keep saying that, one year, I want to go up into New England- Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine - for Christmas. To stay in a B&B nestled amongst a scenic backdrop of glistening snow, colorful lights and evergreens.
To spend a quaint, “small-town” Christmas where everyone knows everyone and welcomes visitors with open arms and warm embraces. A throwback to yesteryear when Christmases weren’t materialistic; instead, were all about family, friends, and neighborly love.

We’ve come so far that we’ve forgotten what the true spirit of the holiday is all about. It’s not about greed. It’s surely not about flash. It’s about families coming together, good friends, good cheer. By far, the most commanding definition is this:
That hidden meaning is that Christmas is the festival of the human heart. It is a time of year when all the universe conspires to raise the vibratory level of consciousness on earth to one of peace and love toward ourselves and one another. This season resonates to the sweet, childlike innocence that resides in all of us. A time when the heavenly forces inspire us to shift our focus away from fear and toward one of joy, and healing.
- The Meaning of Christmas, Sonia Choquette
Here’s an audio clip of a song that sums it up quite nicely:
In my small town, I’m hoping to see some of that spirit this year. And starting tomorrow, I’m going to do my part to push it along.
What do you do in your town to celebrate the true meaning of the holidays?
