Tuesday’s Child
I am but a child, innocent of guilt
with dreams and aspirations on which my life was built.
Look into my eyes - see inside my soul,
My heart is pure, ‘tho very weak; my health I can’t control.
I have AIDS I’m told, and won’t have long to live
but I am still a little child with lots of love to give.
So please do not forsake me,but let your conscience be your guide.
For lest you forget –
I am Tuesday’s child.

Back in the early 1990s, I was associated with Tuesday’s Child - a non-profit organization passionately committed to meeting the material and emotional needs of families where HIV infection or an AIDS diagnosis has an impact on children. This poem was written for the children of Tuesday’s Child. The organization is no longer in operation, but probably should be. There very well may be other groups in existence that offer the same type of services as Tuesday’s Child. I would like to, at least, hope so.
