Are you a parent? Are you a smoker? Do you smoke in the presence of your minor child(ren)? If so:
- in your house?
- in your car?
- during and/or after meals?
- in a restaurant?
Have you asked your child(ren) if it bothers them? Do you care if it does?
I’m set on starting a national movement whereby all states who still allow smoking in restaurants to ban patrons who come in with minor children from sitting in smoking sections and automatically seat them in non-smoking sections. I want to see those children have a choice and a voice instead of it coming from the parent. I don’t care if the parent is paying for the meal. If you need a cigarette that damned badly, step outside the restaurant.
For children who are subjected to living in a smoking house, they should be afforded the opportunity for a smoke-free atmosphere when eating out. Talk about a small price to pay - I mean, really!

i do not have any kids, but my girlfriend has a little girl. my girlfriend and i are non-smokers and plan to keep our children as far away from it as possible because i don’t want them pickin’ up those nasty habits or possibly dying from second-hand smoke because some jack_ss doesn’t want to put out there cigarette.

I am an ex-smoker - quit cold turkey 14 years ago. During the time I did smoke, it was never in my house or around my son. In fact, there’s a funny story about the time he accidentally locked us out on our 3rd floor patio. Bottom line, we weren’t willing to subject our child to the results of our bad vices.
I hope that more people will feel the same way about this issue - and push for legislation aimed at limiting exposure of minor children to cigarette/cigar smoking. Here’s to hoping!
