Driving home tonight through my sleepy little hometown, we couldn’t help but notice the houses all decorated - even adorned with outdoor illumination. Some were quite pleasant to look at - some, not so pleasant.

As we made our way down the road, beacons of light emanated from a side road, beckoning us to come hither. We circled around the block as the lights grew brighter and brighter, and landed in front of a house with a small yard, totally lit up with lights. We had to squint to avoid the glare filtering through the car windows.

We sat there, parked on the side of the road, gazing at the display; a veritable feast for the eyes - complete with inflatable lawn decorations, lights in every conceivable window and the landscape covered with strings and strings of lights, even a palm tree (in northern New Jersey in December).

Nick, being the MySpace camera whore that he’s become, had his camera handy - so we were able to snap a couple of shots of the house. Mind you, this picture doesn’t do the house nearly as much justice as it would deserve. The sheer brightness alone was like a marquee - calling all UFOs to convene upon our sleepy little town.

Tomorrow night, I’m headed out again in search of what can only be classified as too much free time, or gee, I’m not broke enough this holiday season - let’s give more money to the electric company.
