Driving in New Jersey affords one a 50/50 chance of arriving at their destination unscathed. Herein are offered - Practical Solutions for Everyday Driving Problems (a multi-part work in progress).
Lesson 1: Driving Etiquette 101, aka, How to Lessen Road Rage Stimuli
In the diagram, car A must give way to car B.
Offense: Improper Merge.
This has got to be one of the most annoying driving offenses, and surely tops the (long) list of road rage stimuli. It does not mean let’s race to see who gets there first and cut off the other driver. However, that’s the mentality of the aggressive NJ driver.
In a nutshell, here is the basic rule for merging:
“Merging is where a lane is ending and a driver is required to cross a broken or dotted line to merge with other traffic. In this case, the driver who is about to cross the broken line must give way to traffic in close proximity in another lane regardless of which vehicle is in front.”
Solution: Spike Strips

Any Vehicle, Any Tire Type!
One Spike Strip System.
Every Hit Is a Stop!
- Safely stops everything from sub-compact cars to 18 wheelers
- Predictable, total deflations every time:
- Cars in less than 1/4 mile
- Trucks, buses and 18 wheelers in under 1-1/4 mile
- Run-flat tires in less than 2-1/4 miles
That should get the point across rather quickly, yes indeed!
Lesson to be learned:
